Music tells stories before a single word is spoken. In this workshop, we’ll explore how rhythm, mood, tempo, and genre can transform the way we approach character, connection, and storytelling on stage.

Together, we’ll discover how music can unlock new impulses, reveal unexpected choices, and create a shared atmosphere between performers. By listening differently, we’ll find new ways to build scenes, relationships, and emotional worlds.

A playful exploration of music, movement, character, and connection — moving from individual discovery to shared scene work and ensemble experience.

Instructor: Stacey Smith

Stacey is a performer, director, and teacher with over a decade of experience on international stages. Known for her captivating shows, infectious energy, and exceptional work ethic, she served as Artistic Director and Head of Education at the legendary Boom Chicago Theater in Amsterdam – where she also performed as a mainstage ensemble member.

She has toured internationally with The Second City, appeared in the productions Life Hacks and #DateMe, and performed alongside comedy greats such as Jason Sudeikis, Taran Killam, Amber Ruffin, and Arjen Lubach. She’s also the creator of Stacejam, a critically acclaimed improvised musical solo show.

Stacey has performed at 25 international improv festivals across Europe and North America – 67 times, often as a headliner. She has developed training programs for several schools, designed specialized workshops like S.H.E. (Sisterhood Humor Empowerment), and taught at The Second City, iO Chicago, ImprovBoston, and ComedySportz Chicago. In 2026, she founded the Amsterdam Comedy Studio.
